Waive

If you do not want the Student Health Insurance Plan, you must decline or opt-out of coverage by submitting a waiver. You may only opt-out of coverage during the following Waiver Periods:

Fall: 07/18/2022 - 09/19/2022

The Fall waiver deadline ended 09/19/2022. The online waiver system can no longer accept new waiver requests.

Spring: 11/16/2022 - 01/16/2023

The Spring waiver deadline ended 1/16/2023. The online waiver system can no longer accept new waiver requests.

Summer: 03/13/2023 - 05/22/2023

The Summer waiver deadline ended 05/22/2023. The online waiver system can no longer accept new waiver requests.

To be eligible for a waiver, Rush University requires students to provide evidence of health insurance coverage equal to or better than the requirements below.

To qualify for a waiver, your health insurance plan must:

  • Be active as of 5/1/23.
  • Be fully compliant with the provisions of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and all state and federal mandates. Click here to confirm if your plan is ACA compliant;
  • Provide unlimited access to doctors, specialists, hospitals, and other healthcare providers in the Chicago area.

**Please note, the following types of plans are not acceptable for a waiver. ** 

  1. Short-Term Limited Duration Plans
  2. Medical Cost-Sharing Plans
  3. Healthcare Sharing Ministry Plans
  4. Out-of-State HMO/EPO plans (unless proof is provided that there are no coverage limits in Chicago)
  5. Out-of-State Medicaid Plan
  6. Financial Assistance Plans
  7. Short Term Limited Duration Plans
  8. Limited Benefit/Indemnity Plans
  9. Other health plans created expressly for the purpose of providing coverage to international students and/or non-immigrant visa holders.

Waiver applications will be reviewed and verified as active with the insurance carrier.
